Meridium launches ImageVault 3.4 & SharePoint Connect

The 3:th of June Meridium officially launched version 3.4 of ImageVault, the popular image management software which adds media banking and imaging functionality for EPiServer. At the same time we are also launching ImageVault Connect, which makes it possible to use ImageVault on Microsoft SharePoint.

Except the compatibility with EPiServer CMS 6, ImageVault 3.4 has full support for 64 bit. For developers we have also made it possible to work with conversion formats directly in the API.

In the new ImageVault version, a lot of energy and effort has been improve the security management and system of rights. By the introduction of a new http-handler, the images now get more accurate URL's, something that search engines will benefit. As a result of the improved URL's it is now also impossible for a person with no right to access a certain file, by modifying the URL.

Specific rights for viewing images and files have also been implemented, making it possible to assign certain viewing rights for certain EPiServer user groups. This could be very useful if you, for instance want to crate a specific section for media, where media users should have the rights to display high resolution images in different formats, or if you for example want to store board documents in ImageVault and only want members of the board to have the right to view these documents.  

ImageVault 3.4 also makes it possible to work with metadata in different languages represented on your website. An additional file view for more detailed overview has also been implemented.

Because the third-party product "Image effects ", which ImageVault use, is not compatible with 64 bit, we have temporarily disabled the feature of working with effects in ImageVault 3.4. This is something that we are looking into and hopefully the "effects" will be back shortly.

ImageVault 4.3 supports EPiServer CMS 6 and all versions of EPiServer CMS 5. This version does not support EPiServer CMS 4.6, which the previous versions ImageVault still does.

ImageVault Connect, for Microsoft SharePoint

The ImageVault functionality for EPiServer has become very popular and we have noticed a great need to make the software compatible with other platforms as well. Therefore we are also launching ImageVault Connect, making it possible to use ImageVault on Microsoft SharePoint installation. In this initial stage the installation of ImageVault for SharePoint is dependent on an ImageVault installation on EPiServer. Technically the ImageVault installation on SharePoint uses a proxy to, through the http-handler in EPiServer display the images in SharePoint. To insert and administrate the images in SharePoint, the ImageVault dialouges are retrieved from EpiServer.

The pilot project with ImageVault for SharePoint hase been carried out by Meridiums partner Sogeti, where they, in close cooperation with Meridium, implemented ImageVault on Trelleborg Inc's SharePoint based intranet.
